2011-2012 Registration for newly admitted students
Congratulations! You have been admitted to the Faculty of Engineering! Welcome to your Faculty!
To help make your stay among us enjoyable and memorable, we would like to share a few helpful tips with you.
Newly admitted students MUST consult the suggested course sequence of their program of study when selecting courses. You should pay particular attention to this sequence since, in the Faculty of Engineering, most courses are prerequisites for following courses and failure to follow the courses in the correct sequence may delay graduation. Please don’t forget to consult the Undergraduate Studies Calendars to view your program requirements.
To obtain course descriptions and the list of their prerequisites, please consult the course timetable. At any time, should you require assistance, do not hesitate to consult with the academic assistant for your program of studies (see below).
You want to add a course, drop a course or modify your course sequence and would like to know the impact it will have on your studies? Don’t hesitate to contact an academic assistant by email at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or make an appointment by calling 613-562-5918.

Fill out a change of program form and bring it to the Undergraduate Academic Secretariat at the Faculty of Engineering (SITE building, room 1020).
COOPERATIVE EDUCATION
You wish to enroll in the cooperative education program but did not apply for this when you were admitted? You have until September 30 of your second year of study to apply. To be admissible to this program you must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 6.0 (equivalent to B) in Chemical, Computer, Electrical, Software Engineering and Computer Science. For students in Civil, Mechanical and Biomedical Mechanical Engineering a cumulative grade point average of 4.5 (equivalent to C+) is required.
MATH WORKSHOPS
Want to review mathematics before the fall to better prepare for your first year of University? You’re in luck: You can register for math workshops offered by the Faculty of Science. The workshops will take place during the week of August 22-26, 2011.
MAKE UP COURSES IN MATH AND SCIENCE
Students who must complete a make-up course in mathematics or science may complete this course during the summer prior to starting their first semester. To do so, students must register in person at InfoService (Tabaret Hall, 75 Laurier Street). Make sure to fill out the registration form prior to heading to InfoService. You may download the registration form here (http://www.registraire.uottawa.ca/Portals/43/Registrar/REGI3144.pdf) or pick up a paper copy at the Faculty of Engineering (SITE building, room 1020) or at InfoService.
Make-up courses will be offered during the summer semester which runs from July 4 to August 15, 2011. The deadline to register is July 6, 2011. To obtain course descriptions and schedules, please consult the course timetable (https://web3.uottawa.ca/coursetimetable/Main/en.html).
ADVANCED STANDING
You have previously attended another post secondary institution and you believe that you may be entitled to additional advanced standing than what was granted at admission? You may make a request for additional advanced standing at the Undergraduate Academic Secretariat at the Faculty of Engineering (SITE building, room 1020). Please note that this process may take several weeks.
STUDENT ACADEMIC SUCCESS SERVICE
At the end of your first year of studies or after having completed 24 credits in the Faculty of Engineering, your file will be evaluated. If your cumulative grade point average (CGPA) is below 3.5 (equivalent to D+), you will be withdrawn from the Faculty. A second failure in a compulsory course also leads to a mandatory withdrawal from the Faculty. After your first year, to remain in good academic standing, you must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 4.5 (equivalent to C+). To avoid any surprises, we suggest that you familiarize yourself with our Faculty Regulations
ACADEMIC SUPPORT
Attending university is an important step in a person’s life. You arrived full of enthusiasm, having left home for the first time, discovering newfound freedoms accompanied by new responsibilities and insecurities. While you were admitted to university with a very high average, it is possible that, in your first semester, you do not have the same success you were used to in your previous studies.
If you encounter any difficulties in your studies or in your adaptation to this new chapter of your life, DON’T WAIT. There are many services offered to you, including a mentoring service, study groups and the Student Academic Success Service.. Don’t hesitate to make an appointment with your academic assistant who can provide much needed advice and inform you of the available services on campus.
We wish you success in your studies!
