uOttawa Engineering Entrepreneurs Win 2010 Ontario Engineering Competition Award

February 24, 2010

The Faculty of Engineering is proud to congratulate Software Engineering students François de Bellefeuille of Gatineau and Anthony Lainesse of Orléans for winning the Innovative Design Award at the 2010 Ontario Engineering Competition held in Waterloo, Ontario from January 29th to 31st.  François de Bellefeuille and Anthony Lainesse had earlier won the Innovative Design Award at the 2009 uOttawa Engineering Competition.

Mr. de Bellefeuille and Mr. Lainesse were presented their award for their Suite Delphin program.  Suite Delphin is an innovative scheduling software that takes a series of limitations and constraints such as class size, rooms available, teacher specializations, and creates a schedule automatically to maximize a school`s resources.  Suite Delphin is now used in over 300 French language schools in Ontario.

“Over the last four years, we have built the best scheduling software in the province,” said François de Bellefeuille.  “I am happy to see that the work of our team at Dium Solution is now being recognized.”

Mr. de Bellefeuille and Mr. Lainesse are currently upgrading the software in order to expand to English language schools through their company Dium Solution.  Created four years ago at the Faculty of Engineering, Dium Solution now employs ten people in the Gatineau region.

“The Faculty of Engineering was an excellent incubator for Dium Solution,” stated Anthony Lainesse.  “We were able to develop our ideas, get expert feedback from our professors, and get access to some funding.  The Technology Transfer and Business Enterprise helped us to get information on copyrights and other legal information.  I’m not sure that this would have been possible anywhere else.”

Mr. de Bellefeuille and Mr. Lainesse will hope to continue their winning ways when they compete at the 2010 Canadian Engineering Competition to be held from March 18th to 21st at the University of Toronto.
