University of Ottawa mourns the loss of eminent professor and researcher

The University of Ottawa is saddened by the passing of Nicolas D. Georganas, distinguished professor at the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and founding dean of the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Engineering.

Prof. Georganas received a degree in electrical engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece, in 1966 and a PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Ottawa in 1970.

After graduating from the University of Ottawa, he stayed on as a devoted, energetic professor and researcher at our Faculty of Engineering, bringing honour and distinction to our scientific community.

Indeed, throughout his outstanding career, Prof. Georganas won tremendous acclaim: He was made an Officer of the Order of Canada, received the Order of Ontario, the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal and the Killam Prize for Engineering, and was appointed Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, among many other honours. In 2008, he became Secretary of the Academy of Science at the Royal Society of Canada.

The entire University community is united in offering its sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Nicolas D. Georganas.
