Trevor Hall awarded over $500,000 for research on “green” ICT networks

July 29, 2011

Dr. Trevor Hall is developing technology that can reduce a communication network’s energy consumption while increasing its bandwidth capabilities. Professor Hall’s advances in “green” ICT will contribute to energy-efficient broadband access worldwide and keep our ICT and electronic industries competitive.

The Ministry of Research and Innovation announced a total of $8.1 million dollars in funding to support promising research projects carried out by professors and students at the University of Ottawa and the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute.

The funding for Hall’s project is from the Ministry’s Ontario Research Fund–Research Infrastructure Program. This significant funding will enable Hall and 15 researchers to acquire state-of the art equipment that will ensure their projects have a competitive edge and heighten their potential to excel.

“Today’s announcement from the Ontario government confirms once again that the University of Ottawa is one of Canada’s top research-intensive universities,” said University president Allan Rock. “It is home to many brilliant researchers, who make invaluable contributions here and abroad. This funding will enable these exceptional people to pursue their work in cutting-edge facilities for the benefit of all Canadians, as well as help foster the next generation of leaders.”
