Timothy Lethbridge has been named winner of the Gary Hadford Professional Achievement Award 2010

This award is presented annually by the Canadian Information Processing Society (CIPS) to CIPS members recognized by their peers for their integrity, high degree of competence in their field and outstanding achievements in fields related to information technology.

CIPS represents computer science and IT professionals in Canada. It was founded over 50 years ago by a group of computer science professors. Today, membership consists of people from all areas of the information technology industry.

Timothy Lethbridge, ISP, PEng, is the head of two important CIPS committees. One of these committees, the Computer Science Accreditation Council, is the body that accredits computer science and computing-related programs in Canada (similar to the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board).

The other committee is the Body of Knowledge Committee. This committee is currently developing a catalogue of topics that all computing and IT professionals in Canada should be knowledgeable on in order to be certified by CIPS.

Timothy Lethbridge has been a uOttawa faculty member since 1994 and a full professor since May 2005. He also served as acting associate dean for one year, in 2005. For many years, he helped lead the software engineering undergraduate program. As of 2010, he is faculty secretary and sits on the Senate, the Council on Undergraduate Studies and the Faculty of Engineering Executive Committee.

Professor Lethbridge is a professional engineer and an information systems professional. He is a senior member of the Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers (IEEE) and a member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM).
