The Faculty of Engineering recognizes its students’ accomplishments

On Thursday, November 4, 2010, the Faculty of Engineering honoured the achievements of its top students during the Ceremony of Excellence. The students were recognized with scholarships, awards and prizes at the undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate levels. There was a total of 310 recipients for 2009-2010.
Claude D’Amours, vice-dean of academic affairs, and Chantale Foré, undergraduate programs administrator, were the masters of ceremony for the event.
The evening began with the Dean, Claude Laguë, welcoming the students as well as their friends and families. Next, the dean announced the winner of the engineering Alumni Award of Excellence, Hojjat Salemi, who unfortunately was unable to attend the ceremony in person. However, he gave his acceptance speech via video. His daughter, Parysa Julia Salemi, then accepted the award on his behalf.
This event, held in Tabaret Hall, was attended by over 250 people, including professors, faculty support staff as well as students and their friends and families. Also present for the festivities were some of the scholarship donors.
The Smart & Biggar Scholarship was presented by Daniel Anthony, while Paul Kelley was on hand for the awarding of the Maryse E. Guénette Memorial Scholarship. Jane Hamm represented the Engineers’ Wives Association during the event. Also, Mr & Mrs Moffit were present to award their own prize. Chandrika Ramasastry and Sriram Shiva were in attendance for the presentation of the Professor S. G. S. Shiva Memorial Scholarships. And finally, the J. V. Marsh and S. G. S. Shiva Memorial Scholarship awards were presented. Sharada Shiva was in attendance as well to see the scholarships awarded.
