PhD student, Wangzhe Li is selected to receive an MTT-S Graduate fellowship
April 28, 2011
The IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (MTT-S) will present a 2011 Graduate fellowship to Wangzhe Li who is a PhD student in the Microwave Photonics Research Laboratory, School of Information Technology and Engineering, under the supervision of Prof. Jianping Yao. The fellowship consists of a check of a $6000, a travel grant to attend the MTT-S 2011 Annual Meeting, and a complimentary registration to the Annual Meeting.
Each year, up to eight fellowships from around the world are awarded. Wangzhe Li will receive a certificate of recognition from the Society during a special Student Awards Luncheon held as part of the Annual Meeting (June 6-9).
Wangzhe started his PhD in the University of Ottawa in November 2007 where he is researching solutions to generate Terahertz waves based on photonics technologies for applications such as broadband wireless communications and Terahertz imaging. Wangzhe was a winner (the first prize) at the Entrepreneurship and Innovation competition organized by the Faculty of Engineering in 2010, where he presented his project, TeraCare, for a revolutionary breast cancer screening scanner using Terahertz waves.
This is the second consecutive year that an MTT-S Graduate fellowship was presented to a PhD student in the Microwave Photonics Research Laboratory. Last year, Chao Wang was selected to receive the fellowship for 2010.
