Pierre Bouchard Design Laboratory

On Thursday 23 April 2009 the Mechanical Engineering Design Lab (CBY C011) was formally dedicated as the Pierre Bouchard Design Laboratory, in honour of the generous donations of Pierre Bouchard of General Bearing Service.

Mr. Bouchard is the president of General Bearing Service, the pre-eminent supplier of bearings and mechanical drive components in eastern Canada. Since the early 1990’s, he has been a generous supporter of design education in the Department, donating large quantities of high quality mechanical parts to support the mechanical dissection laboratories which form such an important part of our first year and second year design curricula. He and his staff have also acted as informal consultants for many student teams working on design projects, they have donated large quantities of literature to the design lab, and they have employed a number of our graduates. Two of Pierre Bouchard’s children have been students of this Department; one of them (Michel Bouchard, BASc 2001) is now the third generation of the family working for the firm.

The dedication of the Pierre Bouchard Design Laboratory celebrates a long-standing relationship with the Bouchard family and General Bearing Service. The Department is proud to be associated with such a successful firm.
