Matwin and Kiritchenko received the 10-year CASCON Most Influential Paper Award

The paper titled “Email Classification with Co-Training” and published in CASCON 2001 by Svetlana Kiritchenko and Stan Matwin, has received the 10-year Most Influential Paper Award. At the time of publication, Svetlana Kiritchenko was a PhD student in computer science and Stan Matwin was her supervisor. Dr. Svetlana Kiritchenko is now a research officer with the National Research Council.

CASCON is a highly reputable, IBM-sponsored international conference that celebrated, its 21st edition this year. The award presentation was made during the opening Kkeynote session of the 2011 conference, which was hosted in Toronto.

The citation said that the paper
“…has received the most citations from this year’s papers by far, and many of the citing papers have substantial citations themselves! Congratulations!”.

It has been a busy year for Stan Matwin who was elected Fellow by the European Coordinating Committee on Artificial Intelligence. He was also inducted as Fellow of CAIAC.

In addition, Stan Matwin who is a professor of computer science, received the Faculty’s George S. Glinski Award for Excellence in Research for 2011
