University Research Chair, Jianping Yao named IEEE Fellow

Professor Jianping Yao has been elevated to IEEE Fellow for contributions to photonic generation and processing of ultra-wideband signals.
The IEEE grade of Fellow is conferred by the IEEE Board of Directors upon a person with an outstanding record of accomplishments in any of the IEEE’s fields of interest. The total number selected in any one year cannot exceed one- tenth of one- percent of the total voting membership. IEEE Fellow is the highest grade of membership and is recognized by the technical community as a prestigious honor and an important career achievement.
A Professor and University Research Chair at the University of Ottawa, Jianping Yao has earned an international reputation as a leader and outstanding researcher in microwave photonics. With overmore than 350 publications, he has pioneered various developments in microwave photonics, including ground-breaking work in UWB over fiber technologies. During his distinguished career, Professor Yao has supervised more than 50 graduate students and post-doctoral fellows, established close partnerships with industry and played an active role in various professional societies.
