uOttawa IEEE Student Branch places second in Canada for the Exemplary Student Branch Award

The University of Ottawa IEEE Student Branch, advised by SEECS Professor Shervin Shirmohammadi, has been recognized as the second best student branch in Canada and has received this award in recognition of exemplary IEEE Student Branch operations. The award was presented at the Annual Student Congress on September 16-18 in in Mississauga, ON.
IEEE Student branches play an important role in the University experience of students in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, and Computer Science, through organization of events (both technical and fun), conferences, information sessions, as well as providing computer and hardware facilities at their IEEE McNaughton Centre, and finally connecting the students to companies in the industry and providing a facility for career networking and job search.
The uOttawa branch has won this award due to their outstanding activity and success for the past year with their involvement with uOttawa and the Ottawa community in general, and the organization and promotion of an impressive number of events and conferences for both students and the public.
In addition, in November 2010, the University of Ottawa IEEE Student Branch also won the Outstanding Student Branch Award of the Ottawa Section
Finally, in April 2011, SEG student Jeffrey Arcand who is the branch’s Communications Officer, won one of only 3 IEEE Canadian Foundation Scholarships given nationwide, each valued at $5,000.
