Habash (EECS) and Liang (Mechanical) awarded funding for interdisciplinary projects

Innovative product design created by undergraduate students will be funded. The students will work in collaboration with industrial/marketing sponsors and community clients. The purpose of this initiative is to identify and adapt the teaching-learning infrastructure to connect students with the community. Professors Riadh Habash from the School of EECS and Ming Liang from the Department of Mechanical Engineering are involved in the development of these projects.
This annual funding is awarded by the Office of the Vice President Academic and Provost, University of Ottawa. The fund’s objective is to allow the initial and selective funding of interdisciplinary initiatives. The University’s contribution can reach up to $10,000 per project.
Current design projects that are being worked on at the Faculty of Engineering:
- Small Wind Turbine for Community Power with the Industrial partner TRIAS Innovations Group and Museum of Agriculture as a possible Community Customer.
- Security Robot with the Industrial Partners: PRONOX and Iron Horse Security and Investigation, and Canada Science and Technology Museums Corporation as a possible Community Customer.
- A Low Vibration Bending Tower for a Small Wind Turbine with the Industrial partner TRIAS Innovations Group and Museum of Agriculture as a possible Community Customer.
- A Mechatronics Sensing System for New Green Lubricant Additive with the Industrial partner TRIAS Innovation Group, and several automotive industries as possible Community Customers.
