Eric Jaques wins Commission on Graduate Studies in Sciences prize

Civil engineering graduate student Eric Jaques has won the Commission on Graduate Studies in Sciences prize for the best master’s thesis in sciences among the faculties of Science, Engineering, Medicine and Health Sciences. The prize is awarded annually by the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (FGPS).
Eric prepared his thesis under the supervision of Professor Murat Saatcioglu, University Research Chair in Earthquake Engineering. At present, Eric is working towards his PhD under Professor Saatcioglu’s supervision.
The thesis, entitled “Blast Retrofit of Reinforced Concrete Walls and Slabs,” includes original and comprehensive experimental research, software development and complex dynamic inelastic analyses. As indicated in a letter from the FGPS, Eric’s thesis is an “outstanding contribution to engineering knowledge.”
