Two top Canadian research stars at the Faculty of Engineering

The first Canadian Hirsch-Index Benchmarking of Academic Research (HiBAR) was recently published by the Higher Education Strategy Associates (HESA). The benchmark uses the h-index to rank researchers by influence in their field. The h-index, proposed by physicist J. E. Hirsch in 2005, is a measure of research output based on both publication and citation data for a given researcher.
The HESA ranking includes every Canadian university faculty member and uses data from Google Scholar to calculate the h-index for each professor.
New course offered for future entrepreneurs

Starting in Fall 2012, there will be a new course entitled Technology Entrepreneurship for Engineers and Computer Scientists.

Congratulations to the winners of the PEI Student Competitions

The Faculty of Engineering has established two annual competitions in entrepreneurship and innovation for undergraduate and graduate students respectively.
Taking an innovative product, technology, or service that has been technically and scientifically validated within the scope of courses or research work as the basis, participating students are required to develop business plans for the possible commercialization of that innovation. These business plans must integrate commercialization, product development, marketing, and entrepreneurship components.
In the Graduate and Undergraduate categories, student teams won cash prizes of $10, 000 - $7,500 – $5,000
In addition to the cash prizes, all 13 finalists will be able to benefit from free professional services of two partnering firms: Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP and KPMG LLP. This unique opportunity will enable finalists to further develop their respective business projects.

At the official ceremony on March 16, 2012, Gregor v. Bochmann received the diploma and insignia of a doctor honoris causa from the University of Rennes 1 (France).
