Go Eng Girl 2009

When?

What?

Explore the exciting field of engineering through this special free event for girls in grades 7 to 10! The goal is to encourage girls to consider studies and careers in engineering by introducing them to fun hands-on activities and providing them with positive female role models.

You must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Parents will have the opportunity to attend interesting sessions to help them learn how they can support their daughters and encourage them to consider the field of engineering.

Registration

  • Beginning August 31, 2009, register online on the Go ENG Girl official website: www.ospe.on.ca/goenggirl.
  • On the day of the event, bring a signed Parental Consent Form. Without this form, you cannot participate in Go ENG Girl.
  • Admission, parking and lunch are all FREE!

Directions and parking information

  • The Go ENG Girl event will take place at the School of Information Technology and Engineering (SITE) at the University of Ottawa, 800 King Edward Avenue, Ottawa.
  • Parking is free in lot M (corner of Mann and King Edward Avenue) on the day of the event.

Schedule

9:00 a.m.: Registration

9:30 a.m.: Welcome by Dr. Claude Laguë, dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Ottawa

10:00 a.m.:

Start of hands-on activities and speaker presentations

Grade 7 and 8 students: Design a balloon-powered car!
Design and build a car propelled by the air released from a balloon and learn more about the related engineering concepts! Will your car be the one to go the greatest distance?

Grade 9 and 10 students: Build a lightning telegraph!
Make a telegraph to communicate with the various teams, learn about the Morse code and explore telecommunications! A decoding competition will take place at the end of the activity!

10:45 a.m.: Break

11:00 a.m.: Hands-on activities – second half (parents can attend the competition)

12:00 p.m.: Free lunch at the SITE building – cafeteria area

12:30 p.m.: Start of the Faculty of Engineering guided tours

1:30 p.m.: End of the tours
