Biography:
Professor Fabio Variola received his B. Eng. and M. Eng. in Materials Engineering from the University of Trieste (Italy) in 2004. In 2009, he completed a joint doctoral program between the Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique-Énergie, Matériaux et Télécommunications (INRS-ÉMT) and the University of Montreal.
He then accepted a postdoctoral position at the Laboratory for the Study of Calcified Tissues and Biomaterials (University of Montreal). In July 2010, he joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ottawa as Assistant Professor.
His research interests focus on surface nanoengineering of medically-relevant metals to improve tissue integration and provide controlled drug-release.
